The Mercedes-Benz W180 featured a 2,195-cc inline six-cylinder engine with a four-speed column-shift manual transmission as standards. They were available as a sedan, coupe and cabriolet and were built from 1954 to 1959. The models associated with the W180 chassis code were the 220a and 220S. The W180 was one in a series of Mercedes-Benz models to be commonly referred to by the "Ponton" moniker. This was in reference to the unibody-type construction that resulted in a pontoon-shaped exterior styling and was later seen W128 line.
