The Porsche 911 GT2 RS first appeared with the 997 generation in 2010 to great acclaim; the 991-generation GT2 RS debuted in 2018, and with 80 more horses and 37 more pound-feet of torque than its predecessor, it is capable of sprinting to 60 mph in a vision-blurring 2.8 seconds. The GT2 RS can cover the standing quarter mile in just 10.5 seconds and does not run out of breath until 211 mph.
The 991 GT2 RS is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six that produces a mind-boggling 691 horsepower at 22 pounds of boost. Torque is massive—553 pound-feet between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm, all fed to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK twin-clutch transmission and a 3.96 differential with electronically controlled limited-slip. Helping achieve these astounding figures is Porsche’s brilliant VarioCam system, which optimizes timing as engine speed changes.
Yet the 911 GT2 RS is not only immensely powerful, but also light. Extensive use of carbon fiber, including the roof panel, anti-roll bars, front lid—part of the optional $18,000 Weissach Package—all assist the car in weighing in at just 3,241 pounds.
This striking example, finished in Guards Red over Black and Black/Red Alcantara, was originally delivered to Carlsen Porsche of Redwood City, California. Notably, the car was selected with the highly desirable Weissach package, featuring extensive carbon-fiber trim and lightweight components. Moreover, the car’s exterior features the stylish light design package and the extremely practical front-axle lift system. And for that last dramatic touch, the car rides on menacing satin black wheels.
The carefully considered effect continues with the interior, which includes nearly every available option. Upon opening the doors via the optional high-gloss black handles, one instantly sees the illuminated carbon-fiber door sill guards. The dashboard is finished in black leather trim, with the steering column casing also in leather. Lastly, the Alcantara steering wheel’s 12-o’clock marker is finished in red.
The 991-generation GT2 RS has been called the flagship of Porsche’s stable of extreme high-performance road cars. Porsche intended to manufacture only 1,000 units for 2018 and 2019, but it is believed that strong demand resulted in somewhat higher production; each example is coveted both for its sheer performance and its rarity. Displaying under 2,060 miles at the time of cataloging, this GT2 RS is set to remain a top contender in the sports car field in the years to come and would make a fine addition to any collection.
