The late 1960s was a high point in Italian style and a moment that secured the futures of Ferrari and Fiat. Ferrari wanted to race in the 1967 F2 category and needed 500 engines to meet competition rules, but it had no capacity. Fiat agreed to build the all-aluminum V-6 2.0-liter engine, re-engineered by Aurelio Lampredi and producing 180 brake horsepower. The firm needed a halo car to lure aspirational buyers, and the result was the Fiat Dino Coupe.
Commissioned from Bertone, the sleek four-seater was created by legendary stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro. Launched at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show, it featured a five-speed gearbox, a limited-slip differential and four-wheel disc brakes. Gianni Agnelli, the industrial magnate, was among the wealthy owners and the model famously featured in 1969 film The Italian Job.
This stunning 1967 Dino was the recipient of a no-expense-spared ground-up restoration commissioned by its current owner. Every effort was made to make this one of the finest 1967 Dino Coupes in existence. The car was completely disassembled, with the body stripped to bare metal. The correct 2.0-liter V-6 engine, five-speed transmission and other mechanical components have been completely rebuilt to ensure this rare coupe performs as well as it looks. High attention to detail is evident in every area, from the laser-straight body with mirror-gloss red paint and restored original Cromodora alloy wheels, to the beautiful, correct black interior complemented with wood-trimmed dash and steering wheel. The entire restoration was photo-documented, and it has reportedly only been driven 25 miles since completion.
Exceptional in every way, this superb 1967 Fiat Dino Coupe is perfect for the discriminating collector who appreciates both quality and drivability. This example presents a rare opportunity to own one of the very best.
