Serial no. 812 32418 H, an original factory-supercharged Cord 812 phaeton, was at one point the showroom display model for Dallas Winslow’s Auburn Cord Duesenberg Company of Auburn, Indiana, today the ACD Automobile Museum.

In the late 1950s the Cord was purchased by Dr. Milton Neumann, an early ACD Club member and enthusiast from Oklahoma. Dr. Neumann had the ACD Company painstakingly restore the car to its original condition; it was the first Cord automobile to receive a modern “100 point” show restoration, and the last Cord rebuilt by the ACD Company in Auburn. Part of the work included fabricating a correct rear-mounted spare, identical to one of the eight original units, supplied by Los Angeles dealer the Auburn-Fuller Company.

Dr. Neumann displayed his Cord regularly well into the 1960s, when, in being driven to a show, it was involved in an accident. It was thereafter put into storage and remained largely hidden away until 1987, when it was acquired by George Arakelian. Mr. Arakelian has personally restored several 810 and 812 Cords and is highly regarded for his skilled expertise on these cars. As his personal automobile, this car received the very best of his talents and knowledge, and was painstakingly finished to, as near as possible, its original condition and appearance, including a new front stub frame.

The completed restoration debuted at the 1997 ACD Club National Reunion, where it received the Buehrig Trophy for Best 810/812 and the Ames Trophy for Best of Show; it again received the Buehrig Trophy two years later. It continued to make occasional appearances all over the country for the next 15 years, including the 2013 Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles. The current owner acquired the car that year and has continued to maintain it to the same painstaking standard, resulting in a restoration that still appears “fresh” and is still capable of winning major awards. In fact, the car was judged Best of Show at the ACD Club West Coast Meet in 2017, and Best in Class at this year’s Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance, testament to its continued success on the show field.

Still widely held among the very finest restored Cord phaetons in the world, this is the finest restored example available for sale today and requires only another very proud caretaker.
