Keen to showcase the abilities of its Tailor Made department, Ferrari’s birthday gift to its best customers came in the form of 70 unique liveries, one to celebrate each year of the marque’s existence and applied just once to each model in its existing lineup. This consisted of an F12 Berlinetta, GTC/4 Lusso, 488 GTB, 488 Spider, and California T. A beautiful and exciting way to celebrate the company’s history while firmly looking toward the future, each livery was inspired by one particular model or individual car that significantly impacted Ferrari’s history.
This California T’s livery was inspired by the 250 Testa Rossa prototype, chassis no. 0666 TR, that was campaigned by Scuderia Ferrari during the 1957 and 1958 seasons. Replicating the Testa Rossa’s livery at the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans, the California T is finished in Rosso Corsa Metallizato with a Blu NART and Bianco Avus stripe and roundels. Larger Scuderia shields are airbrushed on the fenders typical of Ferrari’s racing cars of the era. Inside, the majority of the interior is trimmed in Nero leather while the seats are trimmed in Beige Peccary leather, a distinct pig skin that is grippier than Ferrari’s usual leathers. Interior trim panels are also painted in Rosso Corsa Metallizato to match the exterior with a livery on the transmission tunnel that matches the interior stripe. The bare metal interior flooring completes the car’s sporty look.
In addition to the car’s Tailor Made options, it is equipped with a handful of desirable options, including the Handling Package, as well as the AFS System, parking camera, and full electric sheets. Since its delivery to Ferrari of San Diego at the tail end of 2017, the car has remained in California from new and is presented today in virtually as-new condition, with only delivery mileage. This particular car was also one of the seventy 70th Anniversary Ferraris displayed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2017.
As applied to the California T, “The Redhead” is a perfect marriage of both performance and luxury, ideal for the enthusiast looking for a car to drive and enjoy on a daily basis in the warmer months that celebrates a wonderful part of Ferrari’s past.
