130 hp, 239 cu. in. V-8 engine, independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 115.5 in.
This offering presents the rare opportunity to own a Ford centerpiece that is a fully optioned one-of-a-kind car. This was an actual dealer display Skyliner and one of just 200 demonstrators created by the factory to show off the new overhead valve 239 V-8.
These showroom-only cars were given special hoods with clear panels that allowed viewers to see inside the engine bay without lifting the hood. This was not an option available to the public, but it was a factory-installed feature. Each car further received a special light bar mounted to the hood to illuminate the engine, which most collectors today have never seen and has long since been forgotten. Thankfully, this example still retains its original light bar.
As a major attraction, this Ford is heavily loaded with 25 options, including a Ford-O-Matic transmission, power steering, power windows, a power seat, a remote control mirror, an inside non-glare mirror, tinted glass, a Borg clock, a radio, a courtesy and map light, FoMoCo door edge trim, a Coronado deck lid, wire basket wheel covers, fender skirts, front and rear wrap around bumper guards, rear fender ornaments, a deluxe hood ornament, a FoMoCo exhaust deflector, rocker panel trim, turn indicators, factory back up lights, and Magic Aire climate control. Also included are presentation boards with factory literature and documentation, as well as the snap-on sun screen for the inside of the clear top.
This example has a lengthy known history and has been in the Charlie Thomas Collection since the early-2000s. It has been remarkably well preserved and will easily be a centerpiece in any collection it joins. Of note, this car received an AACA National Senior Award in 1982. Very little would be required to put this Ford back on the show field for discriminating inspection once again.
