The Ferrari 456M—where “M” stands for “modificata”—launched in 1998, six years after the debut of the original. It represented a subtle update to the Italian automaker’s elegant “2+2” grand tourer, with revised styling at the front, including a larger grille featuring integrated fog lights, and a re-sculpted hood made of carbon fiber. Changes were also made to improve cooling of mechanical components and aerodynamics, including a revised undercarriage spoiler. On the interior, the seats and dashboard were redesigned, and the stereo was relocated to the front of the center console, ahead of the gear selector.
Output for the 5.5-liter V-12 engine remained the same, as did the transmission choices, which included a six-speed manual—found in the 456M GT—and a four-speed automatic—offered in the 456M GTA. Fewer than 1,350 456M models are said to have been produced over six years.
This well-preserved 456M GTA was manufactured in December 2000 and is said to have had only two owners prior to the consignor acquiring it in March of 2017—with the second owner having transferred the title from their personal name to a collection LLC during ownership. It is finished in an attractively subdued color combination of Grigio Ingrid over a beautiful two-tone Crema Connolly leather. The car’s dark gold-toned brake calipers peek from behind the factory, five-spoke, 17-inch, alloy wheels wearing Continental Extreme Contact tires, which were mounted in October 2017. Power-adjustable seats with contrast piping and a trunk-mounted Becker Silverstone six-disc CD changer are among the car’s amenities.
Accompanying service invoices indicate that the battery was replaced in April 2021, and the oil, brake pads, and knobs for the factory Becker stereo replaced in August of 2020. The car was fully detail at that time, as well. In October of 2019, the timing belt service was performed, which included replacing belts, tensioners, camshaft seals, and valve cover gaskets. The oil, air filters, cabin air filter, and fuel cooler hoses were also replaced at this time.
A number of highly desirable factory items accompany the car, including fitted leather luggage, a tool kit, a flat tire repair kit, a flashlight and various manuals in a leather case, an original sales brochure, a scale model of the vehicle in a collectible case, and multiple keys with fobs. With only about 650 of the 456M GTA models having been produced, this rare and refined grand tourer remains highly desirable to discerning enthusiasts, thanks to its timeless design, signature Ferrari V-12 performance, and present condition.
