This is an iconic BMW coupe with a matching numbers engine. Known to the initiated by its factory nomenclature of E9, the BMW 3.0 CS Coupe was a Karmann-built two-door based on the New Class 2000CS. Enlarged to accommodate the M30 engine from the E3 sedan, it appeared first in 2.8-liter guise. In 1971, two new versions were introduced, largely based on the same bodywork. The 3.0 CS and the fuel-injected 3.0 CSi would help BMW win numerous European Touring Car Championships.

According to the BMW Certificate that accompanies the car, this BMW was originally delivered to Verona, Italy on 24 February 1972, finished in the attractive color Polaris Metallic. It was found by the consignor in Italy, still in the care of its first owner, an admired pharmacist in his small town where he used the car only to commute to work. The car was found in a barn in original, untouched condition, right down to its tires. Recently, this rare and desirable 3.0 CSi was imported to the United States.

Under current ownership, the car was given a cosmetic restoration during which it was repainted in the correct color of Polaris Metallic. Complimenting the exterior is a dashing blue leather interior that features the standard front bucket seats with a center console. Under the hood is the highly desirable, matching numbers, fuel-injected 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine is backed by a four-speed manual transmission. While servicing the vehicle after it was imported, the water pump was replaced, taking care to retain original hoses and clips. Although not original, air conditioning has been discretely added to the car for comfortable touring, using original parts in the interior. Remarkably, the car still sports its original tires.

Showing a mere 23,112 kilometers at time of cataloguing and accompanied by an actual mileage title, this desirable European-specification example is now offered from just its second owner. It is believed that only 7,935 examples of the CSi were produced through a production run that spanned 1971 to 1975. As such, this 3.0 CSi presents a unique opportunity to purchase a sought-after Euro-spec example.
