Completed on 15 December 1959, this 1960 356 B 1600 Cabriolet very much embodies the engaging, driver-focused, spirit that catapulted Porsche to success. Powered by a rear-mounted, air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission, it sported convertible bodywork executed by Reutter; the Cabriolet top afforded an enjoyable open-air experience, but added a measure of practicality and utility not found on the more minimalistic Speedster.

This car was originally finished in Aetna Blue (740) over a Light Grey leatherette interior. It was refurbished under previous ownership in the 1980s, at which time the car’s floors were reportedly replaced and it was painted in its present color of Signal Red. This is paired with Black leatherette seats with matching door panels and black carpets, all complimented by a black convertible top.

Inside this Porsche’s purposeful cabin, a trio of classic VDO gauges sit in front of a three-spoke steering wheel; a period Blaupunkt radio serves as entertainment. Completing the car’s exterior appearance are body-colored bumpers with chrome overriders and 15-inch steel wheels with polished Porsche crest-emblazoned hubcaps, now wrapped in Michelin XZX tires. Removable mesh headlight covers add an appropriately sporty touch.

Carefully maintained since its refurbishment, this 356 B Cabriolet retains its numbers-matching engine¬—number 601288—according to the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Notable service work performed on this car includes rebuilt carburetors and fuel pump, distributor maintenance, new bushings, and the installation of a new battery completed in 2019. Further work completed in late 2019 includes carburetor and fuel system adjustment, brake system maintenance including rear wheel cylinder replacement, shifter assembly and clutch adjustment, and tachometer cable replacement.

An appealing companion for carefree, sunny-day drives, this 1960 356 B 1600 Cabriolet is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, 2019 service invoices, a top boot, a reproduction tool roll obtained via the Porsche 356 Registry, a jack, and a spare tire, secured in the front trunk by a leather strap.
