First unveiled at the 2017 Defence and Security Equipment International, the Bowler Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) was a showcase not only for Bowler’s capability and expertise gained from thirty years campaigning at the top of extreme off-road motorsport activities, but also its Cross Sector Platform (CSP). CSP is Bowler’s answer to the requirement for a common versatile platform with modular subsystems and components designed to cater to a range of potential customers, ranging from defence to emergency services.

For this R.I.V specification machine, Bowler mated the CSP chassis to a 300 bhp V-6 engine with 700 newton-metres of torque, ensuring extremely rapid progress could be made over any terrain thanks to the long travel independent suspension and high and low range all-wheel-drive system. Drive is channelled via ZF’s highly rated 8HP transmission, payload is rated at 2,000 kg and there is independent seating for four adults.

Although the vehicle is not road legal, it runs and drives very well and with its engine and powertrain being sourced from Land Rover, spares and service items are available globally. It is the result of significant research and development, completely unique and would make a wonderful addition to any existing collection of military vehicles, or indeed as an extremely capable way of navigating one’s private estate, the desert, or even the Grand Canyon when something a lot faster than the trusty Defender is required.
