At the turn of the new millennium, Ferrari at long last reintroduced an open-top, front-engined V-12 into the range in the form of the limited-production 550 Barchetta Pininfarina. The lineage, picking up after such icons as the Daytona Spider, continued five years later with the 575-based Superamerica. But it wasn’t until the third modern-day entry that Maranello engineers finally combined the joys of convertible motoring with harder-edged driving dynamics, arriving courtesy of the SA Aperta and its howling 599 GTO engine.

The 812 Competizione A was a similar masterstroke. A drop-top counterpart to the track-biased 812 Competizione, and sharing that model’s atmospheric 6.5-litre V-12 powerplant, it launched as the joint-most powerful naturally aspirated road car in Ferrari history.

With the engine spinning to a mesmeric 9,500 rpm limit to deliver 819 horsepower, the Aperta could sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.85 seconds before hitting a top speed of circa 340 km/h. Despite the hugely enticing recipe, global production was capped at a stated 599 examples, which were only allocated to prized clients.

Holding a 9 May 2023 date of production, this example was delivered new to its sole owner five months later by SF Grand Est Mulhouse, the official Ferrari dealer for Sausheim in France. Extensively configured by the vendor, the bespoke specification added in excess of €213,000 to the purchase price.

That considerable sum included the selection of Extra Range Blu Elettrico paintwork. The rich finish is complemented by Yellow flashes in the form of the callipers for the ceramic brakes, sidewall detailing on the Pirelli Colour Edition P Zero tyres, plus the accents that outline the aggressive carbon fibre front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and central bonnet blade. Further exterior highlights include the Scuderia shields painted onto the front wings, removable carbon fibre hardtop roof, and the diamond-polished forged wheels. The exterior benefits from the November 2024 installation of paint-protection film by Garage Zénith SA.

The interior of the 812 Competizione A was no less thoughtfully appointed. Also taken from the Extra Range, the cabin is upholstered in tan Cuoio leather and matching-colour Alcantara carpets. The large-size Daytona racing seats feature the Cavallino logo embroidered into the headrests with Blu thread. Similarly, Blu seatbelts were selected alongside Blu Sterling stitching on the steering wheel. Meanwhile, the front air vents, door handles, centre console, plus dashboard inserts are carbon fibre, and a Yellow tachometer was selected.

While the 812 Competizione A is primarily a track-focused special edition, this example features such conveniences as Apple CarPlay, adaptive headlights, a suspension lifter system, passenger display screen, heat-insulating windscreen, integrated audio system, plus front and rear parking cameras.

Under the care of the consigning owner, the Ferrari was registered for road use in Switzerland on 11 April 2025. The car heads to auction in Zurich fresh from its most recent inspection, which was conducted by Garage Zénith SA Sion in August 2026. This followed a September 2025 engine oil, filter, and brake fluid change. Sparingly driven, the odometer displayed a mere 1,576 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. The car is supplied with its Ferrari special series “Yellow Book”.

Continuing in the great Ferrari tradition of offering a limited-edition, open-top, front-engined V-12 sports car, the 812 Competizione A stands among the most collectible of 21st Century automotive creations. With chassis number 293819 further benefitting from an elaborate and extensive configuration, further to single ownership, it would make for a stunning entry into any performance-themed collection.
