{{bidding.lot.reserveStatusFormatted}}

  • One of circa 2,650 examples of the 356 B 1600 Super Roadster produced
  • Finished in its factory-correct Ruby Red shade; complemented by a black interior
  • Retains its matching-numbers Type 616/2 flat-four engine rated for 75 horsepower
  • Documented with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity

Porsche introduced the T5-generation 356 B Roadster as a replacement for the 356 A Convertible D. Compared to the contemporaneous Cabriolet offering, this more sporting model featured a removable windscreen frame, pared-back Speedster-style fascia, a lighter folding roof, and did without rear seat cushions. Meanwhile, in Super trim, the Type 616/2 flat-four engine was rated to produce 75 horsepower to mark a 15 horsepower jump over the standard 1600 variant.

The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity issued by Porsche Cars North America records that this car, chassis number 87593, was built as a 356 B 1600 Super Roadster for the 1960 model year. It was finished by the factory wearing Ruby Red paintwork over a Light Grey leatherette interior and was optionally equipped with reclining seats and Continental tyres.

Although this Porsche’s complete history is not definitively known at present, it appears to have been previously registered by the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA). Offered for sale in Belgium as part of The Willy Michiels Collection, the 356 B is presented in its factory-correct exterior colour of Ruby Red. Furthermore, the car is noted to retain its matching-numbers flat-four engine paired with a replacement manual transmission.

One of approximately only 2,650 total units of the T5-generation 356 B 1600 Super Roadster built between 1959 and 1961—with as few as 350 cars allocated to 1960—this attractively specified example, which features its correct engine and paint colour, is sure to find favour with Porsche enthusiasts.

Please note, most of the vehicles in The Willy Michiels Collection have been retained on static display for many years. As such, some cars and motorcycles will require mechanical servicing to be made roadworthy. As part of this estate sale, the vehicles are offered in their condition as found, and wherever possible RM Sotheby's encourages prospective buyers to inspect any lots prior to bidding. Please contact an RM Sotheby's Car Specialist for the condition of specific lots or with any further questions.
