After the success of the 550 Maranello, the spiritual successor to Ferrari’s 365 GTB/4 Daytona, Ferrari realised that there would be a market for a convertible version of the car, much like the fabled Daytona Spider of the 1970s. The resulting car was the limited-edition 550 Barchetta Pininfarina. The Barchetta was mechanically identical to its hardtop sibling, and it was intended to be a pure roadster. For the convertible variant of the 550’s replacement, the 575 Maranello, the factory responded to requests for a more usable top in dramatic fashion and created a brand-new convertible top system which offered the freedom of the Barchetta with the practicality and security of the coupe.

Dubbed the Superamerica, the most interesting part of the car was its Revochromico rotating hardtop. It was the first roof of its kind ever fitted to a production car, and it was built using a carbon-fibre frame that was integrated with electrochromatic glass. The transparency of the glass could be adjusted from within the cabin to allow varying amounts of light in, letting roughly the same amount of light in as a conventional glass sunroof at its lightest setting and only 1% of the sun’s rays through at its darkest. With the press of a button, the Superamerica can be transformed into a convertible, with the roof rotating back to rest flush with the boot lid in just ten seconds. Ferrari chose to produce just 559 examples, and every car was spoken for within weeks of its announcement.

The 575 Superamerica offered here was delivered on the 24th of January 2006 by Ineco Auto in Padova, Italy. It was finished in Argento Nurburgring over Grey Leather with contrasting silver stitching, a highly attractive and desirable combination. It was fitted with the highly desirable HGTC package which includes a sportier suspension set up, sports exhaust, red brake calipers and the superb CCM Carbon Composite Material brake discs, providing a driving experience which matches its stunning good looks.

Now showing just 27,500 km, this UK-registered example has just received a major service, including new cam belts and tires, and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

Chiamata Superamerica, la parte più interessante della macchina era il suo hard top, girevole, Revocromico. È stato il primo tetto di questo tipo ad essere montato su un'auto di produzione, ed è stato realizzato utilizzando un telaio in fibra di carbonio integrato con un vetro elettro cromatico. La trasparenza del vetro può essere regolata dall'interno della cabina per consentire l'ingresso di una quantità variabile di luce, lasciando passare quasi la stessa quantità di luce di un tetto in vetro convenzionale nella sua posizione più chiara o solo l'1% dei raggi solari nella sua posizione più scura. Inoltre, semplicemente schiacciando un pulsante, la Superamerica può essere trasformata in una decappottabile, con il tetto che ruota indietro, per posizionarsi, in soli 10 secondi, a filo con il cofano del bagagliaio. Ferrari ha scelto di produrne solo 559 esemplari e, ogni auto è stata venduta entro poche settimane dalla prima notizia dell’esistenza del nuovo modello.

La 575 Superamerica offerta qui, è stata consegnata il 24 gennaio 2006, attraverso la Ineco Auto di Padova. Rifinita in Argento Nurburgring su Pelle Grigia con cuciture argento a contrasto, una combinazione molto attraente e desiderabile, è anche equipaggiata con il ricercatissimo pacchetto HGTC, comprendente sospensioni più sportive, uno scarico più aperto, pinze dei freni rosse e gli eccellenti dischi freno in materiale composito in carbonio CCM, per offrire un'esperienza di guida perfettamente in sintonia con il suo bell'aspetto.
