Inspired by the performance success of such cars as the Shelby Cobra, the Tiger continued the proven tradition of taking an American V-8 and putting it into an English sports car chassis. In the case of Sunbeam, they elected to take their Alpine model and drop a Ford 260-cid, 164-hp V-8 into the engine bay. The roadster is also fitted with a four-speed manual transmission. The Cinnamon Pearl colored roadster seen here has a black top with black interior and "minilite" style wheels. Weighing in at only 2,650 pounds, the effective result was the Sunbeam Tiger.

Although it arguably may not be as widely known as the Shelby, the Sunbeam Tiger was broadcast into millions of American homes each week as the car Maxwell Smart drove to Control headquarters at the beginning of every episode of Get Smart.
