Over the decades of 911 production in all its many variants, Porsche has regularly honored the memory of one of its predecessors, the competition-bred 356 Speedster, with limited-production models featuring its distinctive styling. The third-generation 964-based Speedster of 1994 featured, of course, a cut-down windshield and a fabric top that folded beneath a rounded fiberglass tonneau. This covered a fully carpeted luggage storage space, in lieu of rear seats, and it was supported by gas struts. Only five standard colors were available, all paired with black tops.

It is believed that 925 911 Speedsters were produced for all markets in 1994, and that just 469 made it to United States dealers. They were fiercely desirable when new and have continuously remained so since, continuing a tradition of collectability common among all generations of Speedsters. They are both magnificent to admire and thrilling to drive.

According to build information included in the file, the 911 Speedster offered here was built on 30 March 1993 and invoiced on 31 March; it was finished in an especially handsome livery, the special-order color of Maritime Blue over a Black interior with blue accents, and equipped with several desirable options including automatic full climate control, Speedline for Porsche 18-inch wheels, AM/FM radio with cassette player, and a limited-slip differential.

Notably, the Porsche was ordered from the factory and originally owned by noted enthusiast and comedian, Jerry Seinfeld. Wishing to have even more performance on tap, Mr. Seinfeld had the vehicle shipped with Carrera RS-specification engine parts to Andial for modification. Porsche factory technicians at the shop disassembled the engine and installed the performance parts, resulting in an increased output of 300 horsepower. This 911 Speedster is likely the only example extent with this unique upgrade and color specification.

Recording 10,779 actual miles at the time of cataloguing, it is accompanied by its original books—with Seinfeld’s name noted in the warranty book—tools, and air compressor, as well as copies of documents outlining the vehicle’s history.

This is an excellent example of one of the most desirable Porsche models of its generation, one that aptly honors the thrilling heritage of the Speedsters before it—with the type of unique provenance sought by the most studied connoisseurs of the model.
