The Carrera RS is among the most sought-after variants of the type 964 Porsche 911. Essentially a road-legal version of the contemporary Carrera Cup race car, it is nearly 300 pounds lighter than a standard type 964 Carrera Coupe, thanks to thinner side glass, an aluminum hood, a smaller battery, a simpler wiring loom, lightweight door cards, minimal carpeting, and magnesium alloy wheels. Insulation and soundproofing were also removed, and the stereo was optional. Its 3.6-liter naturally aspirated M64/03 flat-six is more potent than the standard Carrera’s engine and drives the rear wheels through a racing clutch with a single-mass flywheel connected to a five-speed manual transaxle with ZF asymmetric limited-slip differential. To improve handling, the suspension was lowered and stiffened. All these changes combined to create one of the most unfiltered and exhilarating driving experiences in its day.

The 1992 Carrera RS offered here completed production on 11 November 1991 and was sold new in Germany. A de-registration document on file indicates that the car was de-registered on 5 February 1992, which likely accounts for the stunningly low indicated mileage of 165 kilometers. A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms the car is finished today as it left the factory, wearing Guards Red paint over a Black Leatherette interior with optional single-piece bucket seats in Black Leather with Dark Grey, Pearl Grey, and Light Grey Leather inserts. The car was further specified with a locking differential and no airbag.

The consignor acquired this remarkably well-preserved Carrera RS in 2017 from Thomas Schmitz, leading authority on type 964 and 993 Carrera RS models and proprietor of German Sports Cars GmbH in Telgte, Germany. A service invoice for routine maintenance from Porsche Zentrum Münster dated 18 September 2017 and a corresponding stamping with mileage log in the factory warranty/service booklet indicate the mileage to have been 153 kilometers at the time. The consignor subsequently registered the Carrera RS in the United Kingdom and continued its regimen of fastidious care, accruing precious few miles.

The car was shown at the Salon Privé 2018 in Woodstock, United Kingdom and is now offered with its factory manuals with leather sleeve and various documentation. Air-cooled enthusiasts will be hard pressed to find a better type 964 Carrera RS than this one, with such exceedingly low mileage and retaining its full factory specifications with numbers-matching engine and transaxle.
