The 300 series, designed by Hermann Ahrens, marked a very important line of vehicles for Mercedes-Benz, as they were the first all-new models produced by the company after the end of World War II. The four-door version of this imposing, powerful car was quickly nicknamed ‘Adenauer’ because of the six custom examples that saw use by the chancellor of Germany at the time, Konrad Adenauer. Expensive as they were expansive, they were often seen ferrying politicians and celebrities and were acquired by captains of industry and other wealthy individuals. As such, the 300 Adenauer symbolized the success of their owners.
The handsome 300 sedan offered here was reportedly restored for a previous owner by the L&N Olde Car Company of Newbury, Ohio, in the early 2000s, and later maintained by MBI Motors of Portland, Oregon. Restoration work included replacement of all seals, refurbishment of the front end and steering, and overhaul of the carburetors. Finished in the classic Mercedes-Benz color scheme of Mittelrot (Medium Red) over a beautiful tan leather interior with classic and romantic solid wood trim, it is unusually well-finished for an example of this model, few of which have been fully restored due to the tremendous cost of such an endeavor. The interior is quite comfortable, with large, thickly upholstered armchair-like seats, and practically acres of legroom for both the front and rear passengers. It is offered with original parts and service manuals for the model.
This marks a rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful example of one of the most iconic modern Mercedes-Benz sedans – a car of kings if there ever was one.
