Few automotive experiences are as deeply intertwined with Ferrari as a front-engined, open-air V-12. From legendary machines like the California Spider and Daytona Spider to modern rarities such as the 550 Barchetta and 599 SA Aperta, these cars have long represented the marque at its most emotional—and most exclusive. Unveiled in 2021 and limited to a stated 599 examples worldwide, the 812 Competizione A, indicating "Aperta," for open, stands as the latest and most advanced expression of this storied tradition.
Developed as the open-top counterpart to the 812 Competizione, the Competizione A offered, upon its debut, the most powerful naturally aspirated V-12 engine Ferrari had ever produced in a road car. Displacing 6.5 liters and revving to an electrifying 9,500 rpm, the engine delivers 819 horsepower with breathtaking immediacy, propelling the car from 0 to 62 mph in 2.85 seconds on its way to a top speed of 211 mph.
To harness this performance, Ferrari engineers extensively reworked the chassis and aerodynamics. Independent rear-wheel steering sharpens agility, while improved brake cooling ensures consistency under sustained high-speed driving. Visually and functionally, the front cowl is defined by a bold carbon fiber blade that masks enlarged engine bay vents, reducing drag while optimizing thermal efficiency. At the rear, airflow over the open cabin is carefully managed by twin aerodynamic openings nestled between the dual flying buttresses. These channels control air from both above and alongside the cockpit, enhancing comfort at speed while delivering a measurable gain in overall aerodynamic performance.
All of this engineering culminates in an open-top experience that elevates the 812 Competizione A to a class of its own. With its removable carbon-fiber roof panel, the driver is granted unfiltered access to the V-12’s spine-tingling soundtrack, merging the rawness of a track weapon with the elegance of a grand tourer.
Production was strictly limited to a stated 599 examples, each reportedly allocated, by invitation, exclusively to Ferrari’s most esteemed clientele—top-tier VIPs personally selected by Maranello, all of whom had been deemed worthy custodians of such a commanding, focused machine.
Displaying just 95 miles at the time of cataloguing, the 812 Competizione A on offer strikes a commanding presence in Rosso Corsa (DS 322) with a Nero and Argento Nürburgring racing stripe over a Nero and Rosso Alcantara interior. The car is enhanced by nearly $150,000 in factory options, including Scuderia fender shields, parking cameras, a front suspension lift system, and adaptive LED headlights.
Carbon fiber features prominently throughout the specification, including the hardtop, rear diffuser, under-door covers, front air intakes, and engine and airbox covers, with the entire ensemble meeting the pavement via Rosso Scuderia brake calipers lurking behind 20-inch carbon fiber wheels shod in Grigio Pirelli Color Edition tires.
The Rosso and Nero Alcantara–trimmed cabin is generously equipped, featuring large racing seats with lifters and embroidered headrests wearing both the Cavallino Rampante and the Italian flag. Further appointments include a Rosso Alcantara trunk lining, Rosso stitching and seat belts, carbon fiber for the instrument cluster, dashboard inserts, interior door handles, and upper console, as well as Apple CarPlay and a high-power Hi-Fi audio system. With an impressive original MSRP of $852,420, this exceptional Competizione A is now offered with a copy of its original window sticker, car cover, and other factory accessories.
The latest chapter in one of Ferrari’s most storied bloodlines, the 812 Competizione A is the ultimate in open-top, front-engined V-12 excitement. This example, pairing the model’s uncompromising design with bespoke specifications and a two-digit odometer reading, is an opportunity not to be missed.
