Circa 1900. Carved wood piece understood to be off of a circa 1900 Marenghi Bioscope. Illustrates Neptune and the Roman goddess Prosperina (the Greek equivalent to Persephone) atop a sea monster while Neptune yields his mighty trident. Likely would have been the centerpiece of the traveling Bioscope show popular during the early 1900s Art Nouveau period. Purchased from "The Tussauds Collection of Fairground Art" auction in 1997. At the time it was in stripped original condition and was subsequently restored by the Milhous brothers to its current condition with no expense spared. Exquisitely restored, in outstanding overall condition showing little to no wear throughout. 70 inches tall.
