Three years after Porsche launched the 997-generation 911 GT2—already the fastest street-legal 911 ever built—the limited-production GT2 RS arrived and stole the accolade. The standard GT2 added 50 horsepower more than the 997-era Turbo, and the GT2 RS upped that even further to 620 horsepower, in part by increasing boost on the twin-scroll turbochargers. The GT2 RS was put on a strict diet, resulting in an overall weight saving of 68 kilograms over its GT2 stablemate, achieved through the use of a single mass flywheel, a carbon fibre bonnet, various steel parts replaced with aluminium equivalents, lightweight centre-lock wheels, and even lighter carpets.
This Italian-delivered, one-owner example GT2 RS was built to 2011 model year specification and finished in Carrara White over a Black leather and Alcantara-trimmed interior with Guards Red seatbelts. The Porsche was attractively configured with the exterior carbon fibre package, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Black instrument dials, carbon fibre door entry guards, aluminium doors, an Alcantara gear lever and steering wheel, rear wiper and sunroof delete options, a lightweight lithium-ion battery, black painted wheels, clear rear lights, and lightweight headlights.
Purchased new by the consignor and delivered through Porsche Centre Bergamo, Italy in December of 2010, this example has been used sparingly and enjoyed over a 14-year ownership period. During that time it had covered a modest 29,959 kilometres by the time of cataloguing.
Becoming the ultimate evolution of the 997-generation platform, the GT2 RS is still the most powerful road-going Porsche ever fitted with a manual transmission, even surpassing the extraordinary Carrera GT. Close to 15 years after its launch, it still provides an incredible driving experience like little else on the road—often referred to as “the widowmaker” thanks to its raucous power, light weight and manual gearbox. A formula perfected by the Stuttgart marque over many years, this 911 GT2 RS is numbered 287 of just 500 made, offered from its first and only owner. It will surely impress its next keeper, on both road and track.
