The sleigh—also known simply as a sled or as a sledge—is a carriage intended to be drawn over a relatively smooth and low-friction surface, usually snow or ice, making it a popular choice for winter travel. Like many other carriages, these were produced in a variety of designs and configurations over the years, as well as to a varying degree of quality.

The delightful sleigh offered here, certainly among the very finest, was reportedly built by the renowned coachbuilding firm Carrozzeria Simonetti of Padova, which hails back to 1850. It also survived long enough to build exceptional coachwork on Alfa Romeo and Fiat chassis during the automotive era. Descendants of the Simonetti family continue to produce elegant coachwork in the same area today.

This Simonetti sleigh is believed to have originally belonged to a noble family due to its exceptionally intricate paintwork in black and scarlet with yellow piping; the interior is robustly upholstered in faux leather.

This wonderful treasure evokes memories of roasted chestnuts by the fireside on a winter vacation in Cortina.
