Each car is fully disassembled to the bare chassis, which is then cleaned, prepped, strengthened, and fitted with carbon-fiber body panels. Beyond that, the limits for personalization are imagination and wherewithal.
“The idea of this machine it to take it to the very apogee of air-cooled development and to present a 911 unlike the world has ever seen before, hopefully, and something that will be a line in the sand to how spectacular an analog, naturally aspirated, air-cooled 911 can be,” explained Rob Dickinson in an interview with noted motoring journalist Chris Harris. Dickinson is the founder and mastermind of Singer Vehicle Design, also a British musician, multi-instrumentalist, and singer-songwriter previously of the band Catherine Wheel.
With each commission taking around 4,000 hours and up to four years to complete, the quality of engineering and attention to detail is mind-boggling, drawing the attention and business of many notable Porsche collectors, racecar drivers, and celebrities, whose fervent proselytizing has created a years-long waitlist.
THE HIGHLANDS COMMISSION
This Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer is number 201 of approximately 450 Classic 964 examples created; Singer Vehicle Design is no longer accepting orders for this compelling specification, increasing this car’s desirability from the outset. Completed in December 2021 on a 1994 911 RS America chassis, it was delivered to Dallas, Texas.
Known as the “Highlands Commission,” its original owner specified the desirable 4.0-liter flat-six engine, rated at 390 horsepower. Importantly, in June 2024 Singer refreshed the engine to Porsche Motorsport North America’s latest specifications with new cylinder heads and various other components. A copy of the invoice for this work also indicates that the Brembo braking system was updated at this time to the carbon-ceramic brakes package, an ebony and walnut Le Mans shift knob was installed, and the exterior graphics were updated with Deep Orange lettering, the original owner having specified no lettering. The total cost of this brake update and cosmetic work was nearly $40,000.
The Rainette green exterior pairs beautifully with the brown, orange, and black interior featuring Vivaldi leather trim with Vivaldi and Tivoli woven inserts, Tivoli square-weave carpets, and black leather dashboard, upper door trim, knee pads, roof pillars, and parcel shelf. Other features specified by the original owner include a six-speed manual transmission, Ohlins suspension with “Phantom Road” tune, Fuchs/RSR wheels, decklid letters and badge in nickel, Ivory headliner, track seats with nickel gromets and back panels in Piano Black, rear folding seats with seatbelts, drilled footboards, a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, brass dash badge, and air conditioning. “Special Wishes” features stipulated by the original owner include a Deep Orange tachometer with Cream markings and deletion of the door pockets.
