When the Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera was introduced in 1974, it represented something new from the German automaker: its first true production supercar. Although immediately identifiable as a 911, the Type 930, as it was internally designated, featured a 3.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine boasting a single KKK turbocharger and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Weighing less than 2,700 pounds, the 930 could sprint to 60 mph in just over five seconds on its way to a top speed north of 150 mph.
Produced in October 1987, the 930 Turbo offered here is an exceptional example possessing both high levels of preservation and documentation, indicating a life of fastidious care. Still wearing its factory applied coat of Guards Red over black leather trim, this 911 Turbo also retains its numbers-matching engine and transaxle. Now showing less than 25,000 miles, the car has been recently treated to a $20,000 sorting by noted marque aficionado Klaus Holthaus of North American Racing Werks in Reseda, California. A comprehensive, dry-ice detailing of the underbody, suspension, and drivetrain was performed as well.
The car is documented as having left the Zuffenhausen factory equipped with a limited-slip differential, alarm system, electric sliding sunroof, sport seats with electric height adjustment, stone guards, steering wheel with elevated hub, and Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 AM/FM cassette radio. A copy of its original window sticker, owner’s manual, and period-correct Porsche air-compressor are included.
Exceptionally presented in an ultimate specification, and with fresh sorting by marque specialists, this 930 is highly compelling on many levels, checking all the right boxes for those seeking entry into the elite ranks of air-cooled 911 Turbo ownership.
