By continuing a strong legacy of front-engined V-12 berlinettas, Ferrari surpassed its already superb 575 Maranello by producing what is widely considered the last great analogue Ferrari, the 599 GTB Fiorano. Upon its debut in February 2006, the 599 GTB would stand as Ferrari’s leading sports car, bringing together almost 50 years of design and engineering excellence.
From the outset, the 599 GTB was designed from the ground up. Pininfarina’s veteran designer, Frank Stephenson—legendary stylist of the F430 and Maserati MC12—oversaw the Ferrari’s aggressive, muscular looks. The beautiful twin bi-xenon headlights work in conjunction with the slanted bonnet, evoking a sense of pure speed. This is followed by the flying buttress-like “sail panels” in the rear, which further accentuate the car’s stellar looks.
At the heart of the 599 GTB lies a monstrous 5.9-litre V-12 engine producing 612 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and 448 pound-feet of torque at 5,600 rpm. Buyers had the choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or the six-speed semi-automatic electro-hydraulic “F1” transmission that can shift in a blistering 100 milliseconds. Coupled with a lightweight aluminium chassis and magnetorheological suspension system, the 599 GTB can propel itself from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.2 seconds and to a top speed of 205 mph.
The example offered here is finished in the attractive colour pairing of Grigio Silverstone over a Charcoal interior, and left the factory in right-hand-drive configuration fitted with the fast-shifting “F1” gearbox operated by flappy paddles. The car is accompanied by selected Ferrari manuals, from which factory data confirms the 599 GTB retains its matching-numbers engine. Also included in the sale is a battery charger, Ferrari torch, and Vehicle Identity Passport.
The 599 GTB Fiorano is arguably one of the finest gran turismo berlinettas ever produced by Ferrari and would be an outstanding addition to any fine collection.
