  • A beautiful open design on the glamorous 1929 Cadillac
  • Attractive older restoration in elegant, appropriate colors
  • Subtle mechanical upgrades for better enjoyment on the road

Cadillac’s 1929 models were lightly freshened cosmetically, with parking lamps moved from the cowl to the top of the fenders. Underneath, however, were significant changes, including the debut of a new “clash-less” Synchro-Mesh Silent-Shift three-speed transmission, which eliminated gear clash and thus the need for double-clutching during shifting, enabling much smoother gear selection. New mechanical four-wheel brakes required considerably less pressure than earlier models, and shatterproof Security Plate glass became standard in all windows. The suspension system featured new double-acting Delco shock absorbers.

Among the available body styles were several striking open designs produced by Fisher, distinguished by low, fleet lines with a beltline dipped several inches below the cowl, and a fabric top that folded nearly flush at the rear.

The car offered here is an attractive example of the 1929 Cadillac. The reproduction serial number tag on its firewall identifies it as 324547, which the copy of the factory build sheet on file indeed identifies as a touring, originally finished in Phantom Gray and Black, delivered to Chicago. At some point the Cadillac was modified for ease of use on modern roads with the fitment of a later V-8 engine from a 1941 model, number 8351622, as well as a circa-1950s power steering unit, alternator, and a four-speed manual transmission. It is believed to have been restored in the 1980s in its present livery, a rich dark green with brown leather interior and tan cloth top. Following many years on display, it was acquired in 2015 for a European collection, from which it has recently emerged.

Ideal for mechanical freshening and enjoyment, this car offers the elegance and excellent engineering of a 1929 Cadillac, combined with a few updated amenities that will make it much easier to drive and enjoy on modern roads. It is sure to prove a fine touring automobile for its next caretaker, or suitable for any number of events—not least among them parades, as it offers a spacious interior with plenty of room for friends or VIPs.
