With ads proclaiming, “There’s a Ford in your future,” the Detroit automaker’s 1947 models carried over unchanged from the previous year. Buyers would have to wait further into the future for something new. Indeed, there had been little reason for manufacturers to update their models, as production was just beginning to catch up with demand due to the lack of new inventory during World War II. Engineers and designers were busy working on updated designs for 1949, which would make Ford the first of the Big Three to claim a new postwar passenger car.

For 1947, the Super Deluxe was once again the top trim level. Super Deluxe models included two sun visors and armrests on both front doors, whereas Deluxes had only one of each. Horizontal chrome trim on the body, chrome window moldings, a horn ring on the steering wheel, and passenger assist straps on the B-pillars further distinguish Super Deluxe models. Middle and third-row seats could be removed for added cargo space. Ford built 16,104 of the wood-bodied wagons for 1947.

While wagons were available with a six-cylinder engine, most were equipped with Ford’s flathead V-8. This particular Super Deluxe Station Wagon, however, has been modified with a 327-cubic-inch Chevrolet small-block V-8 equipped with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, aluminum radiator with auxiliary fan, MSD electronic ignition, and 12-volt electric system, all to improve performance and drivability. The engine is mated to a three-speed manual transmission. In addition to a third-row seat, this wagon is equipped with a clock, heater, dual visors, vanity mirror, jack, jack handle, and lug wrench. Finished in ivory with a brown interior, this wagon wears wide whitewall tires.
