By the mid-1930s, the luxury car market had all but disappeared. With the world gripped by the Great Depression, even those still able to afford fine automobiles felt it inappropriate to spend such huge sums on extravagant purchases. As a result, many of America’s most storied marques were lost. Luckily for Lincoln, it had the full backing of the Ford Motor Company and was able to weather the decade. For 1933, Lincoln’s factory offerings were split between the 136-inch-wheelbase Model KA and the 145-inch Model KB, with both cars sporting the new 67-degree L-head V-12 engine. Lincoln’s bodies for 1933 featured beautiful Streamline Moderne curves, combining a traditional high roofline with a heart-shaped radiator design and waterfall grille.
The five-passenger KA sedan offered here must rank among the finest and most useable prewar Lincolns in existence. After acquiring, the consignor commissioned Roy Brizio of Brizio Street Rods in San Francisco, California to both refurbish and comprehensively enhance this KA sedan for regular road use. A world-renowned custom builder, Brizio and his team have created cars for celebrities such as Eric Clapton and Neil Young and have been featured in numerous automotive publications.
Leading the extensive list of updates is a 6.2-liter Chevrolet LS3 V-8 engine mated to a GMC automatic transmission. The engine’s reported 430 horsepower is transferred to the road via a custom Heidts independent front and rear suspension, complimented by rack-and-pinion power steering and Wilwood multi-piston power disc brakes at all four corners. Custom chromed wire wheels wear wide whitewall radial tires. All told, the multi-year refurbishment process cost upwards of $300,000.
Since its completion, this enhanced KA sedan has been driven regularly throughout San Francisco and will surely bring continued enjoyment to its next caretaker.
