As the Hudson Motor Company was among the few remaining car manufacturers left in the late 1940s, their striking Commodore was introduced to a favorable reception. These cars were introduced in 1948, and their famous “step-down” design, which involved mounting the floor of the car to the underneath of the chassis, allowed for a very low center of gravity and excellent interior space. The top-of-the-line convertible brougham was a very attractive car that had numerous available options, including the 254-cubic inch, inline eight-cylinder engine. Only 596 Commodore Convertible Broughams would be built for the 1949 model year.

This beautiful example has been completely restored in a striking color combination of Cornish Cream over a burgundy interior and has a black convertible top. According to the consignor, the restoration started with a clean car, which is apparent upon closer inspection. The body was tastefully restored, as was the chrome and aluminum brightwork. The leather interior is in excellent condition, and all of the desirable options are present and accounted for, including, but not limited to, the power convertible top, power windows, driver’s side spotlight, Hudson radio, and, of course, the aforementioned inline eight-cylinder engine, which is mated to a three-speed transmission.

The unique design of the Hudson Commodore, along with a recent and stunning restoration, makes this Custom Eight Convertible Brougham a great example for any enthusiast of this special time in automotive history.
