40 hp, 74 cu. in. V-twin engine.

Harley-Davidson’s new 74 VL Model was introduced in 1930, with a number of improvements over the preceding J model. It was longer and lower with balloon tires, proven Riccardo heads that generated 15% more horsepower than the outgoing model, and the 22-amp battery and sealed coil. A plunger-type crankcase oil drain was fitted with a cam gear case vacuum to reduce oil leakage.

This 1936 VLD Sport Solo received a dazzling restoration by Randy Walker in Brookfield, Massachusetts, in 2008. The work was fully documented; many NOS parts were utilized and correct details were used, down to the paint and decals. On completion, it was stored in a climate-controlled environment and now awaits its next owner to continue to take meticulous care of it.
