Between 1976 and 2004, Lotus made 24 models and derivatives of the Esprit. When the Lotus S4 was introduced in 1992 it had a rating of 27-mpg, while rocketing to 60 miles per hour in 4.7-seconds and achieving a top speed of 165-mph. The Lotus acceleration time was almost a second faster than the 1992 Corvette powered by an LT1 V-8 engine. Exterior and interior facelifting was executed on the car, which was the first Esprit model to include power steering as standard. The exterior redesign was done by Julian Thompson; this saw a smaller rear spoiler placed halfway up the rear decklid. Additional changes of notice were to the front and rear bumpers, side skirts and valence panels.

This Lotus is powered by a 2.2-liter dual overhead cam, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces an estimated 264 horsepower at 6,500-rpm. The strong engine meshes nicely with its five-speed manual transmission. The exterior of this vehicle is painted in silver, while the interior is upholstered in charcoal. The rear spoiler is seamlessly integrated into the styling and a glass roof adds to the pleasure. The interior features a wraparound driver’s side dash that has full VDO instrumentation and woodgrain details. The car also has its new-for-S4 factory alloy wheels with “Lotus” cast into one of the five spokes of each. Standard equipment included power steering, power windows, air conditioning and an AM/FM radio.

It is reported that only 625 Lotus Esprit S4 Turbos were ever produced from 1992-1996, and surprisingly, only four were manufactured for the 1992 model year. This rare vehicle comes with the factory books, keys and service receipts.
