The Chev Impala was a new introduction to the lineup in 1958 and quickly gained marks for its value and performance. Perhaps more than this, it became a style leader for full size cars, eschewing many of the design fads of the 50's. One of the most noticeable was the elimination of the towering vertical fins so many other cars still clung to. The Impala made bold use of a horizontal fin and a roofline which departed from most GM cars.
