Based on the 1964 Rambler Tarpon concept car and conceived by the design studio headed by the famed Richard Teague. Considered a mid-size personal luxury car, this was an attempt by the new company CEO to further compete with the “Big Three” by having a sporty, yet spacious six-passenger sedan that would find a unique place in the market. The styling was distinctive in its pillar-less, fastback roofline and the standard features focused on luxurious appointments and driver/passenger comfort. Only 14,874 examples were produced for the 1965-66 model years, this unmistakable car has found its way into the collector market. Only the 1965 has “Rambler” nameplates. One of the first American made cars that came with standard front disc brakes.
