It is a summer day in Atlanta, Georgia, 25 June 1959. Maurice McGranahan of East Point walks into Brundage Motors on West Peachtree Street, where he’s greeted by Mr. Littleton. Waiting for him at the dealership is a beautiful, brand-new Volkswagen Beetle, fully equipped and finished in the stunning shade of Mignonette Green. This is the car that Mr. McGranahan is here to pick up, and he’s prepared to pay full price, $1,881.21, in cash. The Beetle features a number of factory options, including the leatherette upholstery, whitewall tires, a radio, mirror, sun visor, fuel gauge, and vent shades. It is fully accessorized and finished in what is surely one of the most attractive factory colors. It seems Mr. McGranahan is buying this Volkswagen as a second family car, and he’ll use it quite regularly until 1982, at which point the car is stored very carefully in his garage for the next 15 years.

Up until recently, in fact, Mr. McGranahan remained the car’s first and only owner. The second owner, from whose outstanding collection it is our pleasure to offer it from today, is likewise from Atlanta. Sold new to that fair city, the car had never left the state until its current offering and continues to present in stunning condition after Mr. McGranahan’s full show-quality restoration in his care. The restoration was done in the car’s original colors and has since been further equipped with a number of desirable accessories. The file on hand includes the car’s original cash receipt for payment as well as copies of the original window sticker and correspondence with the service manager at Brundage Motors.

Of the near countless Beetles built in its decades-long history, this is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity . . . a car that has been sold new and cherished in its hometown by only two private owners and has all the documentation to prove its original specification.
