The predecessor to the Pickup was the Microbus and Panel Van. They were configured on the same platform as the other transporter models, the Single Cab had room enough for a single bench seat for the driver and two passengers up front. Just beyond the cab was a large pickup bed. Because of the height of the engine's upright fan shroud, the floor of the bed sat higher than other pickups of the era, but this configuration also eliminated the inner fenderwells that protruded into the loading area. Finally, to make good use of the space beneath the elevated bed floor, Volkswagen offered optional toolbox compartments with locking doors that were perfect for storing tools and materials safely.

The unmistakable front end of the Volkswagen Bus is unchanged in the Pickup and it shows a unique, yet practical look. A key feature of the Volkswagen Pickup was that all three sides of the bed were actually hinged. They could be unlatched and folded down to provide you with a smooth, flat surface that allows for easy loading capabilities. It looks great, but it is even more enjoyable to drive with its four-cylinder engine coupled to a four-speed manual transmission.

This particular vehicle is painted in Velvet Green with a complementary gray vinyl interior. It underwent a full rotisserie restoration a few years ago, and is said to have a beautiful straight body and a show-quality finish. The interior has been redone and the total restoration journey accumulates to five years and $60,000.
