The 1968 Ferrari P6 Berlinetta Speciale concept car showed the direction in which Ferrari design would be heading. Just a few years later in 1973, Ferrari released the 365 GT/BB, which was its first mid-engined production car built for the street. Developed from the ground up, the new model featured a low, wide, sensuous Pininfarina design and a hand-built body by Scaglietti. Reminiscent of Ferrari’s Formula 1 racers, it was powered by a mid-mounted “boxer” 12-cylinder engine, displacing 4.4-liters.

In 1981, Ferrari introduced the 512 BBi at the Paris Auto Salon, with the “i” reflecting the installation of Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, allowing easier compliance with U.S. emission standards. Although the BBi was still not legal in the U.S., many importers converted them to U.S. specifications with the addition of catalytic converters, side reflectors, larger bumpers and other items. 1984 was the last year for the BBi, being replaced by the Testarossa in 1985.

This 1984 512 BBi Ferrari Boxer was imported to the United States when new by Amerispec. After importation, the speedometer was converted from KPH to MPH, but the odometer was left reading in kilometers. This collector owned 512 BBi has traveled just over 10,500-km and within the last few hundred kilometers, a Ferrari specialist in Fort Lauderdale performed a major service costing over $12,000, which included repairs to the timing belts, fuel injectors, fuel system, and the addition of a MSD ignition. Maintenance records and letters of import from the NHTSA and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are included in the sale. Finished in Rosso Corsa over an as-new black leather interior, the combined package makes it one of the finest Ferrari Boxers in existence today.
