The Victoria, a close-coupled two-door sedan with a mild bustle-back tail, was introduced to Ford’s Model A line in 1930. Continued through 1934, it was fondly remembered, so much so that the name was resurrected for the first Ford pillarless hardtop coupe in 1951.

This 1933 “Vicky” is the work of the legendary Boyd Coddington. An all-steel body, it has been chopped, channeled and painted in iridescent purple. A sliding electric sunroof offers fresh air in fair weather. Fenders were omitted entirely, the better to show off the custom alloy wheels and Goodyear Eagle blackwall tires.

The interior is done in gray cloth, with matching carpet and headliner. The dashboard, painted purple to match the body, has round VDO gauges, and the tilt steering column and wheel are also in the purple hue. The dashboard and garnish moldings are by Dan Fink, the interior by Bobby Griffey.

Power comes from a 400-cid small block Chevrolet engine, through a transmission of Boyd’s own devising, a one-off item. The chassis-mounted differential has Halibrand quick-change gears and inboard disc brakes. Formerly owned by actor and producer Nicholas Cage, this car demonstrates what makes Boyd Coddington creations so special.
