According to many, this is the car Chevrolet should have built in 1969; a 454 SS Chevelle Convertible.

It has been driven less than 2,500 miles since its completion three years ago. It utilizes a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban 454-cid engine that has been bored out to a 502-cid block. This powerful engine is connected to a 1993 Corvette six-speed transmission; the rear end is a rebuilt 12-bolt posi-traction unit with 3.42:1 gearing and Eaton axles. The Chevelle also utilizes rear traction-bars.

The Chevelle has a tubular front end, and it is built with a new clutch, brakes, springs and shocks. Additionally this sporty convertible has a new stainless steel exhaust system. The car rides on new tires and wheels by Wheels Vintiques. These resemble the factory SS wheels from the era.

The new interior elements include bucket seats, carpet, side panels and kick panels with speakers. It also has a complete new top with rebuilt mechanical components. The hood is an operable Cowl-Induction type.

The body has been stripped to bare metal. Rust-resistant epoxy primer was applied, then three coats of base color and five coats of clear. The Chevelle was then sanded and buffed to a high polish. It was finished off with all new, or refurbished, chrome and badging.
