The Buick Wildcat was arguably Buick's first performance car, although it was more a luxury sports coupe than a vehicle searching for all-out performance. Nevertheless, it began Buick's quest for power and even lent its name to several Buick engines of the mid-sixties.

Buick promoted the Wildcat, calling it "the next best thing to owning a Riviera." More importantly, the 1963 carryover standard 401-cid V-8 rated at 325-hp was joined by two optional engines for the 1964 model year. These consisted of a 425-cid V-8 rated at 340-hp and the top-of-the-line Super Wildcat 425-cid V-8 rated at 360-hp, as seen in this particular car. A dual-quad carburetor set-up assists the performance level, and Wildcat sales continued to increase.

Along with a powerful engine, this desirable Buick has a factory tachometer and conveniences such as power top, brakes and steering.

Records indicate that 7,850 Wildcat Convertibles were built in 1964. The number with this engine package is bound to be far less.
