Revealed to the public at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Galpin Rocket was created through a partnership between Galpin Auto Sport and Henrik Fisker, the renowned automotive designer responsible for the BMW Z8, with the intent to be the “ultimate American muscle car.”
Utilizing the newly released code S550 Mustang as a basis for the project, Fisker penned fresh styling for the vehicle, taking heavy inspiration from some of his favorite pony cars of the 1960s and 1970s—particularly the 1968 Shelby GT500. A hexagonal grill, twin hood nostrils, sculpted fender flares, side intakes to feed the Brembo Gran Turismo brakes, and a ducktail rear spoiler create an aggressive look, while the use of carbon fiber for the panels aids in keeping the overall weight as low as possible. The design of the 21-inch wheels provides a modern interpretation of the popular vintage mag wheels made by American Racing and neatly fill the wheel arches to provide a sporty stance. Certainly the most important element of any muscle car, the 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 engine under the hood has been fitted with a supercharger that results in a supercar-rivaling 725 horsepower.
The Galpin Rocket on offer is finished in a menacing black over black color scheme befitting such a high-performance machine. According to the window sticker on file, the vehicle left the factory as a Mustang GT premium fitted with the 400A equipment group. The interior features Recaro Leather seats, and importantly, a six-speed manual transmission. Never officially sold to a private individual, this Galpin Rocket has remained under the care of The Boeckmann Collection since its completion and now presents with just 1,500 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloguing.
A unique and highly capable performance machine, the Galpin Rocket is truly one of the great muscle cars of the 21st century, with carbon fiber construction, bold styling, and a supercharged V-8 engine blending the best of old and new. With very few examples completed, the sale of this example makes for a rare opportunity to acquire a special automobile from its creator.
