The introduction of Ford’s new GT at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show came as a complete shock to the industry. It was developed in total secrecy and upon its announcement Ford not only sought to make the new GT a world-beating supercar, but also declared its intent to take the car racing—with the ambitious goal of winning its class at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, 50 years after Ford’s fabled 1-2-3 sweep at the event with the GT40.

While its predecessors were fitted with V-8 engines, this new GT would boast a 647-horsepower, twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine mated to a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch transmission. From a standstill, the GT could sprint to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, leading to a top speed of 216 mph. An adaptive suspension could lower the ride height by a full two inches, while the self-adjusting rear spoiler raised itself to improve aerodynamics. Anchored by Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers and huge 15.5-inch rotors up front, the GT also employed hydraulic power steering, making for a supercar that by every account provided immediate feedback to the driver from every input.

Aesthetically, the new GT was a revolutionary new design, rather than an evolution of its predecessors. A strong emphasis on low weight and aerodynamic efficiency dictated futuristic bodywork with flying buttresses that ingeniously channeled air to mechanical components while maximizing downforce.

Demand was so strong for the GT that Ford implemented a rigid application process for the privilege of buying one, handpicking loyal Ford enthusiasts and mandating that they keep their cars for an extended period. Applications quickly outnumbered available chassis allotments by nearly tenfold at the model’s official launch. With only 1,350 examples planned for production through the 2022 model year, this makes these GTs far rarer than the 2005–2006 model year Ford GT, of which nearly 4,000 examples were built.

SERIAL NUMBER J141

This 2018 Ford GT left the factory uniquely finished in stunning Ingot Silver over a “Dark Energy” interior and was delivered new to Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights, Michigan. As shown on the window sticker on file, silver brake calipers, satin silver painted wheels, and six-point harness anchors were selected as options. In addition, a titanium Akropoviç exhaust has been fitted and allows the turbocharged V-6 to truly howl.

This GT has remained under the care of its original owner since new, accumulating minimal mileage over the past several years with just 28.1 miles displayed on the odometer at time of cataloguing. The car is accompanied by its numbered Ford GT Design Spec kit, original window sticker, Ford Performance GT battery tender, and a Ford GT book. Paint protection film has been applied across select areas of the body to ensure the integrity of the exterior. Owned by a very loyal client of Ford, this 2018 GT was ordered as the matching pair to his 2005 GT, the previous lot in this auction.

With its blistering performance, spectacular aerodynamic design, cutting-edge technology, and proven Le Mans-winning pedigree, the new Ford GT is a supercar that will be celebrated for years to come and the perfect addition to any Blue Oval or high-end sports car collection
