Known the world over for its all-terrain prowess and legendary reliability, vintage Toyota Land Cruisers—particularly those of the long-running J40 series—are increasingly sought by collectors for their unmatched blend of classic style and function. This 1981 FJ43 Land Cruiser, which was restored and tastefully upgraded by the model experts at the FJ Company of Miami, Florida, retains its old-school charm while offering even greater capability for off-road adventures.
Starting with an FJ43, a desirable two-door Land Cruiser variant that benefits from a longer wheelbase, the FJ Company completely stripped the vehicle down to the frame and began a total rebuild. At its center is an upgraded engine, a Toyota 1FZ 4.5-liter inline-six fitted with a programmable fuel injection system and mated to a five-speed manual transmission; power is sent to all four wheels via a rebuilt 4x4 system. The truck benefits from power steering, and it rides on an Old Man Emu suspension setup. Its 15-inch Toyota steel wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain K02 tires; front disc brakes enhance stopping ability.
As a part of the comprehensive overhaul process, this FJ’s body was stripped, repaired, and finished in Medium Blue with a white hardtop for contrast. The interior has been retrimmed in durable, weather-resistant Saddle vinyl, with further enhancements including a digital instrument cluster, a Vintage Air climate control system, and premium audio with Bluetooth connectivity. LED headlamps and a Warn 8274 winch round out the exterior.
Driven fewer than 1,900 miles since the completion of its restoration at the time of cataloguing, this wonderfully prepared, scarcely used 1981 Toyota FJ43 Land Cruiser offers the opportunity to immediately enjoy a high-quality FJ Company build.
