For the 1974 model year Porsche introduced its new G-series 911 platform to meet new the American safety standards. These rules mandated more heavily reinforced front and rear inner structures to better withstand low-speed impacts. The model was now offered as a base 911, the 911 S, and the top-of-the line 911 Carrera. The cars destined for the North American market featured the 2.7-liter Type 911/93 engine with K-Jetronic fuel injection, which produced 175 bhp. The Carrera boasted widened rear quarters to accommodate wider Fuchs alloy wheels and larger tires. The Carrera also carried the “ducktail” rear spoiler and front air dam introduced on the ’73 RS. Distinctive “Carrera” graphics were featured along the sides of the car.
This handsome example was completed in October 1973 and delivered in very striking Guards Red over a black leatherette interior. The Carrera was originally optioned with factory air-conditioning, a Blaupunkt stereo radio, front fog lamps, rear spoiler, 15-inch Fuchs light alloy wheels, as well as stabilizer bars, and Koni shock absorbers. Today, showing fewer than 41,000 documented original miles, this very desirable Carrera has clearly been very well cared for over its lifetime. The ownership history is documented with a detailed file of correspondence, comprehensive award history, and records dating back to the original owner. Interested bidders are encouraged to review the extensive history file at the Access the Knowledge desk onsite or to refer to an RM Sotheby’s representative for additional information.
Most recently the Carrera was serviced prior to the sale and is offered with its original owner’s manuals, tool set and tow hook, air compressor and tire pressure gauge, spare key, and spare wheel. An exceptionally original Porsche, this example is ideal for club shows and continued preservation.
