For many tifosi, enthusiasts and owners alike, their relationship with Ferrari began not through a direct involvement with the cars themselves, but rather through television; specifically, by way of Magnum P.I. and his red 308 GTS. With Tom Selleck staring as the dashing private investigator Thomas Magnum, throughout the series the 308 GTS played a significant role as Magnum's automotive sidekick on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, Ferrari chose the road less travelled and did something rather special to celebrate the momentous occasion. Having unveiled limited production and high-performance models in the past, Ferrari decided to celebrate its history by remembering 70 iconic cars across the canvas of its current model range. Using the F12, GTC/4 Lusso, California T, 488 GTB, and 488 Spider, Ferrari finished one of each of these models in a different livery. Celebrating its cars from the earliest 125 S to the 458 Speciale Aperta, this allowed Ferrari to look toward the future while also paying homage to its past 70 years.
Considering the impact that Magnum P.I. had on both American television and Ferrari as a brand, it was only natural that his 308 GTS serve as the inspiration for one of these 70th anniversary liveries. This livery features bi-color Rosso Corsa Metallic paintwork with the roof and wing mirrors finished in Nero and matte-finished carbon fiber trim. Inside, the interior features Camoscio-colored furniture-grade leather in Cuoio and Nero. The seats also feature the goldrake pattern turned upside-down to imitate the original pattern in the 308 GTS.
In addition to the car's 70th Anniversary specification and associated options (totaling to over $62,000), the car is equipped with the AFS system, suspension lifter, electronic mirror and Homelink, front and rear parking cameras, the passenger display, and finally, over $100,000 in "Special Features."
Presented as new throughout, this F12 has only accumulated test miles prior to delivery. A marked update over the 599 GTB and much more classically styled and subtle than the 812 Superfast and even the F12tdf, the F12berlinetta is a true grand tourer in the finest sense. Built for high-speed cruising with unparalleled performance, the F12berlinetta traces its roots back to legendary Enzo-era Ferraris such as the 275 GTB and 365 GTB/4 Daytona.
As time marches on, the 70th Anniversary F12berlinettas will undoubtedly be the most desirable examples of the model. Truly limited in production with only 70 examples built and only one in each respective livery, this is a remarkable opportunity for the tifoso looking to acquire a Ferrari that is both contemporary and historically significant . . . better yet for that fan who fondly started their Ferrari journey admiring Thomas Magnum and his iconic 308 GTS.
