For an entire generation of car lovers, the Lamborghini Diablo represented the ultimate supercar. It featured a stunning Gandini design, it was more comfortable than the Countach, it was the first Lamborghini to break 200 mph, and best of all, its performance was absolutely brutal. To properly bid the Diablo farewell, Lamborghini unveiled an ultra-exclusive special edition, the ultimate Diablo VT 6.0 Special Edition.
With the recent purchase of Lamborghini by Audi, it was also important that this final Diablo send the right signal: Audi was here to stay and make its mark. Originally limited to 40 examples, ultimately 42 were built, and Lamborghini's design team focused intently on details. Special touches included rich brown leather seats, titanium gearshift and instrument bezels, and an upgraded DVD audio navigation system. In all, it created an interior that was as comfortable as it was beautiful. The engine compartment was not overlooked, either; finished in unpainted carbon fiber, it also had new magnesium intake manifolds and valve covers that assisted the VT 6.0 in reaching an outstanding 550 bhp.
The Special Edition offered here, serial no. 40, is one of the last examples built. It was finished in the exclusive color of Marrone Eklipsis (Sunset Brown), while the other half of the Special Editions were finished in opposing Oro Elios (Sunrise Gold) - which was to represent the two extremes of dusk and dawn, or the beginning and end of the Diablo. With an extraordinarily low mileage of just 14 miles, this 6.0 SE had been kept in climate-controlled storage on the West Coast since 2008, before being exported to Hong Kong in 2012 by the current owner.
Offered as new, this Special Edition signifies the end of an era and the beginning of a new age for Lamborghini. Don't let the sun set on this opportunity to own a very special icon, the ultimate Diablo.
