The Waterous Pump Company of St. Paul, Minnesota, made their mark by being the first American manufacturer of gasoline engine powered pumpers. The original building was erected and in full operation by 1887. Revolutionizing the way fires would be fought; Waterous would introduce the first gasoline engine driven fire pump in 1898. Some models were able to pump 350-gpm. Early models that were not driven by an engine were designed to be light enough to be pulled by men or a team of horses.
Offered here is a 1915 Waterous Horse-Drawn Fire Pumper. It is a unique piece of fire-fighting history that is reported to be in its original patina. It is from the oldest American manufacturer of gasoline powered pumpers, and the company is still in business today.
