In the late 1960s, as the 426 cubic inch NASCAR Hemi engine reached its development peak, Chrysler engineers realized that raw horsepower was no longer sufficient to win races and while the slippery Charger 500 was a vast improvement in terms of aerodynamics, something more radical was needed.

In 1969, Chrysler released the Dodge Daytona, which featured a bullet-shaped nose and an enormous rear wing, creating a stock car racing icon. While the model was extremely competitive on the track, street versions of the Daytona sold slowly as a result of rising insurance rates and climbing gasoline prices. Today, however, the Daytona ranks among the most coveted of all muscle cars.

Finished in its correct factory color of V2 Hemi Orange, this Daytona is equipped with an automatic transmission and sports a black stripe and wing as well as a black interior. It is an excellent running and driving example that is well documented with its original fender tag, original Bill of Sale, and the original owner’s manual. Equipped with power steering, power brakes, and bucket seats with console, it also benefits from a detailed engine bay. With only two long-term private owners from new, it provides an excellent opportunity.
