Working with cars is something Sholto feels almost designed to do: a notion he can trace back to his upbringing on a farm in Wales’ Snowdonia National Park. Son to a classic car dealer with a focus on pre- and post-war Bentleys and Rolls-Royces, weekends were often spent piling into such cars with his father’s mates. And in the summers, Sholto grew accustomed to weeks-long treks tracing the UK in the passenger seat of his father’s 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster, tagging along to visit clients. It is a familial closeness that left a mark on Sholto, who sets aside a great deal of his time for his wife Karen and daughters. The car in which Sholto learned the early ropes of dealing in classic cars is now his own as well, gifted by his dad after a kidney transplant. It is an honor that he takes up with pride, the Primrose Yellow Jaguar seeing enough action at his hands that it has become a veritable calling card. Emboldened by experience alongside his father, at P & A Wood restoration shop, and a long tenure at Bonhams, Sholto comes to RM Sotheby’s as Director of Sales for the UK, with some sixty-to-seventy auctions spent upon the rostrum, both an accomplished car specialist and auctioneer. Tenacious, he is always determined to find the best outcome for any car that passes under his hammer, whether his clients’ or otherwise. Likewise, clients can expect only the best from Sholto, who will strive to prove himself through action, understanding the value of building consistent and valued relationships. A perspective that he first learned all those years ago on the road, sat up beside his dad on road trips to personally meet with clients.
