Following an internship with RM Sotheby’s in the summer of 2018, Cary Ahl joined RM full time in the spring of 2019, shortly after graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Anthropology. Upon joining full time, Cary was previously involved in the Research & Editorial department in Detroit, Michigan, whereas now he finds himself in RM’s Los Angeles office, working alongside other specialists.

Cary’s passion for collector cars began at a young age when he constantly immersed himself as much as possible in the hobby and industry. During his summers growing up, he worked at a regional performance mechanic shop, followed by a brief stint at a classic 4x4 garage. In between summers during university, Cary was able to work for one of the most inimitable car collections at the Simeone Automotive Museum Foundation under Frederick Simeone in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This later evolved into an internship at D.L. George Historic Motorcars of Cochranville, PA. Under respected restorer, David George, Cary was able to attend numerous concours events across the country as well as participate in rallies such as the Colorado Grand. However, summers would not be his only dedicated time to the industry. During his sophomore, junior, and senior years at university, Cary worked for collector and noted Shelby enthusiast Steve Volk at the impressive Shelby American Collection in Boulder, Colorado.

While Cary’s car interest and knowledge spans across all marques and eras of the automobile, his primary focus is in sports and supersports cars of the 1980s to the modern day. He also has a particular affinity for Porsche 911s of all generations, a deep passion for 300 SLs, and pre-war Alfa Romeo 8Cs. In bridging the spectrum of his interests, Cary’s been incredibly fortunate to have driven some of his dream cars, including a genuine Alfa 8C Monza, a 300 SL ‘Alloy’, and many of the latest and greatest supercars.
