BLENHEIM, Ontario (11 July 2022) – Joining multiple collections of incredible pedigree, RM Sotheby’s is proud to present hand-selected automobiles from the remarkable Terence E. Adderley Collection.

With an eye for quality and provenance, Mr. Adderley amassed an impressive collection of significant pre-war full classics and sports cars. In curating the collection, Mr. Adderley pursued only the very best, whether they were fully restored or well-preserved cars in their original state. He shared his collection at many concours events across the United States and kindly opened his stable doors to various car clubs and charitable organizations over the years. His collection holds some of the rarest cars created by Duesenberg, Stutz, and Rolls-Royce, as well as important sports and GT cars from Porsche, Ferrari, and Mercedes-Benz.

Leading the collection across the block, a 1935 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe features unique disappearing-top coachwork by Rollston and has been part of the collection since 1967—55 years in single ownership. Featured in numerous important books and as the basis for a Monogram model, this example is ACD Club Certified in Category 1. This long-held Duesenberg is, without qualification, one of the most beautiful open Duesenbergs. Any enthusiast of “The Mightiest American Motor Car” would be delighted to call it their own (Estimate: $4,000,000 - $4,500,000).

It is estimated that about twenty examples of the Super Bearcat were built, with either traditional aluminum or fabric outer skin, and this 1932 Stutz DV-32 Super Bearcat by Weymann is one of just two known surviving Super Bearcats with fabric-paneled bodies. Formerly owned by Dr. Fred Simeone, William B. Ruger, Sr., and George Holman, this DV-32 may be the best-preserved survivor and, with its combination of fabric and unequaled provenance, is a car without an equal (Estimate: $1,000,000 - $1,300,000).

An important pre-war Rolls-Royce in beautiful condition, this 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Henley Roadster by Brewster boasts well-known, long-term ownership history including Dr. Frederick Keyes, Mark Gibbons, Bud Lyon, and currently Terence Adderley. Only seven Phantom II Henley Roadsters remain extant for the world to enjoy, and this example remains in substantially original, lovingly conserved condition. Assuredly a potential Preservation Class entry, it awaits its next position in another noted collection and will cross the block accompanied by copies of Rolls-Royce Foundation build and ownership documentation (Estimate: $900,000 - $1,300,000).

Jake O’Gorman, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby’s says: “I feel very fortunate that RM Sotheby’s has been entrusted to offer this selection of cars from the Terence E. Adderley Collection. I enjoyed, as many have, his cars on display at the Concours of America at St. Johns, The Amelia Island Concours, and through private tours of his collection. Having the opportunity to personally consign and help find the next generation of caretakers for these magnificent machines is a dream come true.”
