The 250 GTE 2+2 offered here was completed in October 1961. It was finished in Grigio Argento (16003) over a blue leather (3087) interior. The Ferrari was first registered in Rome the following month. In 1972, it was imported to the United States, where it enjoyed a period of West Coast ownership in the care of enthusiasts Robert J. Trier and Redge H. Martin. It was exported back to Europe in 1988, where it was purchased by well-known Ferrari collector Stuart Anderson as a gift for his girlfriend. In February 1993, it was sold to Mark Shannon, who in turn resold it to Ernie Fleischer, of Richmond, British Columbia.

The car was then the property of Yale Shap, of South Surrey, British Columbia, for some years. In 1998, Mr Shap reported to the 250 GTE Registry that ‘normal push/pull console switches have been changed to toggles, either at the factory or shortly after purchase. All trim bits, etc., are as original, including a leather cold weather radiator blind. In changing the thermostat recently, I found the original stamped August 1961.’ Amusingly, Shap noted that in November 1997, the car had been driven by actor Robert Culp in an episode of the cult classic television series Viper.

The previous owner purchased the car in British Columbia and removed the engine, rebuilt it, and used it as a spare for his California Spider. In 2013, the engine was returned to the 250 GTE, which was then driven on the Ferrari Le 250 Tornano a Casa Tour in the summer of 2014. It was then acquired by the current owner in 2015 after nearly 25 years of devoted service.

Having been refinished years ago in metallic maroon, the 250 GTE was stripped down to bare metal and fully restored with a full engine rebuild, including being repainted in Grigio Conchiglia, a colour used on many 250 GTOs in period, and the interior was restored to an off-catalogue and seldom-seen Connolly shade of blue-green (VM 3087). The comprehensive bodywork was performed by Carrozzeria Sport Cars, while the original matching-numbers drivetrain and the interior were fully restored by Garuti and Maieli, respectively. Furthermore, restoration photos and receipts are included in the car’s file. The recently completed restoration was performed to the highest standards, and it bears to reason that this exceptional GTE will be thoroughly enjoyed by its next caretaker.

L'auto è stata poi, per alcuni anni, di proprietà di Yale Shap, del Surrey meridionale, sempre nella British Columbia. Nel 1998, Shap ha riferito al registro 250 GTE che "i normali interruttori a levetta tira/spingi del cruscotto erano stati cambiati con quelli a bottone o direttamente in fabbrica o subito dopo l'acquisto da parte del primo proprietario. Tutti i particolari delle finiture sono originali, tra cui il copri mascherina in pelle per coprire il radiatore qiuando fa freddo. Recentemente, quando ho cambiato il termostato, ho scoperto che quello montato era ancora quello originale, timbrato Agosto 1961." Aneddoto divertente, Shap ha rilevato che, nel Novembre 1997, l'auto è stata guidata dall'attore Robert Culp in un episodio della serie televisiva Viper.

Il proprietario precedente ha acquistato l'auto nella British Columbia e ne ha rimosso il motore, lo ha restaurato e lo ha usato come ricambio nella sua California Spider. Nel 2013, il motore è stato restituito alla 250 GTE, che è stata poi guidata, nell’estate del 2014, nel giro organizzato dalla Ferrari “Le 250 Tornano a Casa”. Dopo quasi 25 anni di fedele servizio, la 250 GTE è stata poi acquistata dall'attuale proprietario nel 2015.

Dopo essere stata riverniciata anni addietro in marrone metallizzato, la 250 GTE è stato tirata a lamiera e completamente restaurata, con la ricostruzione completa del motore, e riverniciata in Grigio Conchiglia, un colore usato all’epoca su molte 250 GTO e l'interno è stato restaurato utilizzando una pelle Connolly ordinata fuori catalogo, di un colore raramente utilizzato, in una tonalità blu/verde (VM 3087). Il lavoro sulla carrozzeria è stato completamente eseguito presso la Carrozzeria Sport Cars, mentre la meccanica originale, con tutti i suoi numeri corretti è stata restaurata da Garuti e gli interni fatti da Maieli. Tutte le foto del restauro e le ricevute dei pagamenti, sono allegate ai documenti dell'auto. Il restauro recentemente completato, è stato eseguito secondo i più alti standard e questo porta facilmente a credere che questa eccezionale GTE sarà apprezzata dal suo prossimo proprietario.
